A recent addition to our group, Night Hawk Lake is the perfect location for smaller groups. It is situated in a remote area 35 air miles northeast of Red Lake. This lake has 5 sections with a slight current in between each section. Un-fished for years, the water has plenty of walleye and northern. In order to ensure continued great fishing, special regulations apply to this lake. The two bedroom cabin is the only one on the lake and is well suited for honeymooners and father/son groups. Honeymoon in a cozy log cabin with a lake to yourself.

Night Hawk named for Frank Paishk

Frank Paishk, a local Oji-Cree guide and trapper, worked for Carlsons for thirty years. He was loyal, talented and quite a character. The name Paishk comes from the sound made by a night hawk as it flies through the darkness. When Frank died we named the lake in his memory. His nephew, Jim Strang, took Frank's place at camp and we learned that he had spent much of his childhood in the Night Hawk area. One August he took a trip downstream from Night Hawk reliving his time with his grandparents. When he was a child, government people picked up native kids and took them to boarding schools. Jimmy's grandparents took him into the bush near Night Hawk to hide from these school police. As a result, he was one of the last native people in this area who remembered the old ways and traditions.

If you hear that paishk paishk sound in the night, it is a night hawk out hunting
- a reminder of the Oji-Cree people who lived here long ago
